Spring Training

I'm so glad that this past week is over. I have had three midterms and a presentation and have not had time to do much other than study. I want to get out and run or hike or something. This summer my dad and I are going to do a triathlon (a super sprint triathlon) so all of the distances are much shorter than normal triathlons. I've been swimming a lot but still am not too good at longer distances, after 50m I'm ready for a quick breather. I'll have to work on this a lot more, but I like feeling like I have something to train towards rather than just doing some cardio. Hopefully it will go well and I can work my way up to Olympic distance, I don't think I even want to try for the 1/2 Ironman. By the way the picture is courtesy of my cousin, Scott, who just finished a triathlon. I think his team got third? Anyways, any good tips on training and such? My foot has been kind of bothering me so I don't want to run too much. But I think it is only two miles so I think I should be okay on the running.

  1. Good for you Katy!! I really enjoy setting goals as it makes the training more enjoyable. What a great bonding experience for you and your Dad too! Keep us posted on the location, would love to cheer you on if I can.

I will check with Erin on training tips since she is the marathon queen around these parts ;-)

  2. Yeah, I'm really excited!! It's in Rancho Seco Park at the end of August, I think the 29th. But I'm not done with summer school until the 27th so I went have a lot of time to actually practice with my dad except for weekends when I am home. But he's way faster than I am anyways! I'd love any tips. I don't understand how she can do marathons, I can't even imagine running that far!

  4. Hey Katie,
So my biggest tip is to start slow on runs. Really, take it easy, don't push too hard!
Good shoes and maybe even inserts are a must as well. Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions.....
