Del Mar

I'm moving in about one month!!  I can't believe that this school year is almost coming to an end.. I just have to hold on for one more month.  Last weekend I made my way down to SD to meet my future PI and look for some housing with some of the other CIRMees.  (More about my visit with my PI in another post).  One of the postdocs working in my lab showed us all around San Diego for about an hour and half getting us acquainted to the area and suggesting areas to live in.  We absolutely fell in love with Del Mar.  It has the cutest downtown area, is right on the ocean and is near the Del Mar racetracks (I can't wait to get my very own derby hat)!  

We had a list of houses to look at and only one in Del Mar.  When we showed up in the morning there were two other groups of people waiting to see the house as well.  They had just put the house up, so we knew it was going to be quick to go.  We decided that it was where we wanted to live and put in out applications that day.  The picture above is of the kitchen.  We realized when we got back that none of us remember seeing an oven and there is no oven in any of the pictures... do you think it is possible that the kitchen doesn't have an oven?!

However, things can never go that smoothly, the next day one of the girls backed out (it's a four bedroom house, so there were four of us).  We really didn't want to let the house go because it was so perfect, but we were unsure about having to find a random person to fill the other room.  So we continued to look and applied for an apartment complex that had a lot of great community amenities including a pool, spa, sauna, gym and put in applications.  We found out that we were approved and then looked at some of its ratings online... and turns out, most people don't agree that it is very nice.  So we got a little scared, especially since we hadn't been able to make it down to SD again to see the apartment complex.  

At this point we have decided to continue on with the house.  We found out on Friday that the house is ours and are hoping to find someone else great to live with!
